Boo Compton
About the Artist
Boo Compton (b.1969, London) draws on a lifetime of experience in design and visual communication to create striking, contemporary paintings. After studying Graphic Design at Kingston and running her studio Nucleus in West Hampstead (with clients including the ICA, South Bank Centre, and Soul II Soul) she turned her focus to painting following a move to Suffolk. Compton’s work is driven by a fascination with colour, movement, and the interplay between space and form. Her design sensibility informs every composition, and she explores how abstraction can capture emotion, rhythm, and balance while allowing each work to breathe and evolve organically.
Aesthetic
Compton’s paintings are vibrant, textural, and visually dynamic. Working in acrylics and mixed media, she incorporates collage, oil sticks, spray paint, and glazes to create surfaces that are layered and tactile. Negative space plays an important role, giving her compositions a sense of openness and light. Her abstract approach draws the eye across the canvas, revealing both energy and subtle nuance. Each piece is a careful balance of spontaneity and design, resulting in works that feel contemporary, confident, and visually arresting.
